What board games do you suggest?

I love board games but unfortunately I don't own many. I'd like to try something new and possibly that can be played with only 2 players. I'd like something with an interesting setting, such as historical, fantasy, star wars etc.
My favourites so far are
-Carcassonne
-Chess (which is in a way a board game, right?)
-Labyrinth
-Role play games
Oh, and I would really like to try something about the Lord of the Rings.

Joshua beat me to suggesting Knizia's Lord of the Rings board game!

Some other great two player games:

Race for the Galaxy - a sci-fi themed card game in which players develop technology and settle planets. Fast playing, full of lots of interesting choices and different strategies to pursue. Plays great with 2 and plays up to 4.

Arkham Horror - if you enjoy roleplaying games, and don't mind a very heavy board game, this co-operative game of battling against sinister forces has a great adventure/RPG feel to it.

Agricola - ok, medieval farming may not be a thrilling theme, but its an awesome game, full of tension, very replayable with tons of variety each time, and really challenging to ones ability to plan. Fantastic game for anywhere from 1-5 players (yes, there's even a fun solo variant).

Hi I would think that everyone would like an easy and fun game so Do you have any games that came out during their time? Or I think that the classic milton Bradley games are great. Monopoly, LIFE, Scrabble, Scattagories, CLUE, I know ive seen alot of those tv games as well which can be found at your local walmart, Target, or toystore. I think that deal or no deal would be a fun and challenging game for everyone. BINGO is another great game if you wish you could give away small prizes like gift certificates to a coffee shop for first prize and second and third can get a box of candies or a gift certificate to a liquor store or a favorite restraunt. Even a mug with a few different teas would be nice cause its the holidays would be another good prize.

Lots of good options above but for the best combo of 2-player game and LotR, I'm going to recommend "Lord of the Rings - The Confrontation".

Stratego like (hidden character types with variable powers), but definitely a step beyond Stratego. Also has a deluxe version.

Happy gaming!

get Axis and Allies for free here: http://j.mp/1BDxxlo

no surveys, no scams, just the full game!

You can pick to be either the Allied powers of Britain, Russia, and America, or instead opt to play as the Axis powers of Germany and Japan. Either way, this is a worldwide conflict where you'll have to learn to play strategically across two fronts, no matter who you’re playing as.

Check out old games by the Avalon Hill company on eBay. They made a number of games that were for 2 players. Gettysburg is one that I have that comes to mind, but there are lots of others.

Try Stratego. There is a Pirates of the Caribbean version. There is also a PoC version of Battleship.
